Abiotic Factor has a special place among the hearts of survival enthusiasts here at PC Gamer. The Half-Life 1-styled survival game received a whopping 92 in our review because, in addition to just being a riot, it was brave enough to ask the question: Wouldn’t the horrors of Black Mesa be better with your mates? The answer is a resounding yes. Also, you can wear a couch as armor.
Lucky for us, then, that there’s soon to be more of it. Abiotic Factor, as displayed during the PC Gaming Show, is going on holiday with “Entropic Break”, a DLC that’ll be entering a test chamber near you later this year.
“Embark on a new tropical adventure,” writes developer Deep Field Games in a press release sent to PC Gamer, “Roaming sun-drenched seas and forgotten islands. Investigate the warped GATE Leaf Test Facility and surrounding isles.”
That all sounds relaxing, though the fine print says you and your fellow scientists’ll still have to do some work “confronting a new breed of fanatics, digital disorder, far-flung anomalies, the Flesh Dimension, and much more.” The Flesh Dimension. Right. Awesome. I don’t suppose they have beaches there?
The trailer, shown above, seems like a nice refreshing break from routine, anyway. Sun-bleached paradisal islands! Beach parties with your mates! Paramilitary men with guns who are there to shoot you! Robots who are also there to shoot you! Did I mention The Flesh Dimension? Don’t think about it. It’s fine.
I’m particularly excited by the gravity-inverting walkways, which I’m sure are bound to let you and your mates die in a spectacularly confusing fashion.
Abiotic Factor’s enjoyed a lot of support since its release last year, including a whole new chemistry system and another separate, concerningly violent holiday dimension, so I’m glad to see that trend continue. You’ll be able to enjoy Abiotic Factor – Entropic Break sometime this autumn, with a specific release date to be announced. Wishlist it now on Steam.
