The gaming headset with one of the best microphones in the biz is now only $130

Before I found my girl, my world, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3X, I pined after the much less good Logitech G733 Lightspeed. What can I say? It was wireless and came in a fairly decent purple colourway for the time. Thankfully, my criteria for what makes a good gaming headset has expanded beyond whether its suite of available colours appeals to me specifically.

I’m also thankful for the fact that Logitech G expanded their gaming headset offerings beyond the middling likes of the G733. Case in point, our James dug the sub-brand’s latest effort, praising the headset’s “near top-class microphone” in his Logitech G522 Lightspeed review. Alas, you’re limited to either a black or white colourway for this particular set of cans—but I’d say the fact that the Logitech G522 Lightspeed is now only $130 from Amazon is definitely worth bending your ear for.

At the very least, all of the currently available colourways enjoy purple highlights, so I’ll live! My lilac obsession aside, one of James’ key criticisms was the price, so a nearly 20% certainly remedies that for some budgets. Beyond that, there’s plenty else to appreciate about the Logitech G522 Lightspeed, with James also highlighting the headset’s “banging sound” and comfortable construction.

But let me first say a little more about the standout mic; the microphone is often less of a priority for gaming headset manufacturers, but that’s definitely not the case here. James writes, “It’s a detachable boom mic that is clear and picks up bass enough to offer a near radio-level sound. Like the audio, a quick adjustment in Logitech G Hub makes it absolutely sing, and it could serve as a streaming microphone without any problems.”

James was left wishing for flip-to-mute functionality on the mic arm, but he also noted that reaching for the mute button on the left earcup is coupled with “a satisfying ping and red light on the microphone [that] means you will never accidentally mute.” As someone who is unfortunately no stranger to sighs of ‘You’ve muted yourself, babes’, I appreciate this feature.

Straight out of the box, James was slightly less keen on the Logitech G522 Lightspeed’s “full and warm” sound, though this was easily remedied with a bass boost tweak in the Logitech G Hub software. That doesn’t mean it was all smooth sailing, though, as this software really did not seem to want to play ball with our reviewer’s work PC for a long old while. Thankfully, you’re stuck with Logitech’s software for long as James notes, “once you’ve tweaked the settings a little and got any firmware updates, there’s almost no need to keep using the G Hub.”

To bring this deal spotlight into land, the Logitech G522 Lightspeed is comfortable to wear for many hours of gaming. One thing to note, though, is that the top headband isn’t quite as adjustable as James would’ve liked. But ‘slightly dodgy software’ and ‘a tight fit on a big head’ are things I could potentially live with for this price.
