Acer's Predator Atlas 8 pricing puts the nail in the handheld coffin for me: it is now a luxury market

A couple of months ago, Intel announced a couple of new chips for handheld gaming PCs, the Intel Arc G3 and G3 Extreme. It was certainly exciting to have something new on that front, given we’ve been seeing mostly the same silicon crammed inside such devices for a very long time. But at the time I warned that signs pointed towards yet more prohibitively expensive price tags. And now we’re seeing Acer’s pricing for its new Predator Atlas 8 handhelds, it’s safe to say I was unfortunately right.

As spotted by KitGuru and confirmed by yours truly, pricing for these handhelds containing new Intel Panther Lake chips ranges, in UK pricing, from £1,000 to £1,500. The cheapest has a regular G3 chip, 16 GB of memory, and a 512 GB SSD. You can up the memory to 24 GB for another £100.
