Board Member Series: Flip de Bruyn

My name is Flip de Bruyn, and I represent Namibia on the Board of the International Esports Federation.

My journey into international esports governance started at home. As President of the Namibian Electronic Sports Association, I worked to build a national federation from the ground up, creating opportunities for athletes, connecting our community, and ensuring Namibia had a place in the international esports conversation.

That work eventually led me to the IESF Board, where I now contribute to shaping the future of esports on a global level.

Within the Board, my focus is on an area that will play a critical role in the future of our federation: AI and digital transformation.

Esports is a technology-native industry. Yet many of the systems that support governance and federation management around the world are still catching up to that reality. My work at IESF focuses on helping bridge that gap.

I am currently developing a core part of IESF’s online administrative platform, a system designed to strengthen the federation’s operational capabilities while significantly reducing administrative workload for our members.

Because the platform touches nearly every aspect of the organization, from business operations and education to member federation management, it requires a close understanding of how the entire ecosystem functions. Through this work, I collaborate with many parts of the federation to help build tools that serve our community.

The objective is simple: create smarter systems that allow national federations to spend less time on administration and more time doing what truly matters, developing athletes, supporting communities, and growing esports locally.

Technology is at the heart of esports. Our governance infrastructure should reflect that.

That is the future we are working to build.
