Less than 3 years after it launched on Steam, the Final Fantasy 7 gacha game is closing

Less than three years after it went live on Steam, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is calling it quits. Square Enix said in an end-of-service announcement that the sale of Red Crystal in-game currency has already been halted, and the game itself will be taken offline on October 6.

Square Enix apologized for any disappointment in its shutdown announcement, saying that it has “worked to provide the best possible experience for our players” since the game went live in 2023. However, for reasons unspecified, “we have determined that it will be difficult to continue doing so and have made the decision to end service.”
