Thanks to the very hungry AI industry and the resulting memory supply crisis, RAM is reaching prices I naively once thought impossible. Between the tail end of 2025 and now, I’ve had a bit of a rude awakening, let me tell ya. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get RAM for a reasonable price—you just need to know where to look.

One lucky Redditor shared an amazing find, posting they’d picked up 32 GB of DDR4 memory for only $50. Then they found a second kit for the same price. That’s 64 GB of RAM for 100 bucks total. Now, the obvious question is ‘Where did this jammy poster make such a mythical find?’ Apparently, in a rural Walmart though the poster has not yet specified a US state.

The really eye-widening detail is that the Reddit user got the two kits on clearance, with a bright yellow sticker on the box declaring that both kits had been reduced down from $319. An equivalent kit will set you back about $230 from Amazon at time of writing. This is your irregularly scheduled reminder to check out your local rural retailer.

Now, there’s always the option to simply wait out the memory crisis. Our Nick did the testing earlier this year, and found that 16 GB of RAM is absolutely fine for PC gaming in 2026. Mind you, that does come with its share of caveats. Furthermore, sources say the memory supply crisis won’t ease until at least 2028 when a number of major memory manufacturers complete their capacity-expanding builds.

All of that is to say, perhaps your rig is in a position where a memory upgrade just can’t wait that long. As analysts reckon memory prices will continue to rise this year, with some even predicting a spike as significant as 50% in Q3, you may want to check your own rural retailer sooner rather than later.
